Q: What does AEM stand for? 

A: Aspiring Educators of Michigan

 

Q: How do I join AEMS? 

A: Click on the member resource tab and then on the "How to join AEMS?" section. It will take you to document outlining the steps you need to take to join AEMS!

Q: How much are membership dues? 

A: There are two sets of membership dues in order to be considered an active member of AEMS. The first is paying dues to AEMS, which is $8 before October 1st with an increase to $13 after October 1st. The second is paying dues to the National Education Association (NEA) which is $27 for the whole year and access to all the benefits such as professional development and free CPR training. If you are unable to pay these dues, please email us at smea@msu.edu to discuss options and find a solution.

Q: What are the dues for? 

A: Member dues go to providing you with an AEMS t-shirt, various materials for activities, snacks for meetings, and more!

Q: When is it too late to join? 

A: It is never too late! We are always accepting new members! If you or someone you know would like to join, contact us at smea@msu.edu

Q: What do I have to do as a member of AEMS? 

A: As a member you will be obligated to get 15 points in various categories. These are:

  1. 3 General Meeting Points 

  2. 3 Social Points 

  3. 3 Professional Development Points 

  4. 3 Community Service Points

  5. 3 Fundraiser Points

You will be able to gain these points through the different meetings and activities held throughout the week!

Q: Where can I see my points? 

A: Click on the member resources tab and select the "AEMS Points Spreadsheet & Point Requirements" which will take you directly to the point document.

Q: What happens if I don't reach 15 points at the end of the semester? 

A: The 15 points and participating in Outreach to Teach are requirements for being an active member of AEMS. If for whatever reason you are unable to get the 15 points due to extenuating circumstances, please email smea@msu.edu to discuss further. We do invite our active members to a celebratory party at the end of each semester and award them an official certificate that can be added to a resume.
